What is your current treatment?
I have these ointments and creams available but don't use them daily. I'm tolerating patchy skin, mostly, but when a patch gets too sore or too itchy, I'll use one of the below for a day or so, and it quiets the problem.
Triamcinolone Acetonide 0.1%
Mometasone Furoate Ointment 0.1%
Hydrocortisone Ointment 2.5%
Hydrocortisone Cream 1%
Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream
How long have you been using it?
Since early in 2023.
Ease of use (1 low to 5 high)? 5
Effectiveness (1 low to 5 high)? 5 for immediate relief, 0 to 1 for sustained relief.
Do you pay for your treatment? Yes, co-pay.
Any side effects?
Yes! If overused, these steroid ointments make the skin very thin, even on the fingertips that apply the ointments. There is a lot of information on this side effect here in Psoriasis Club.

Before finding Psoriasis Club in 2021, I overused ointments under the instruction of my first dermatologist and had very thinning, bleeding skin. Also, my patches were more widespread and very painful. Here, I learned so much. I sought care with a better doctor, tried light therapy (too expensive with my insurance) and methotrexate (too nauseating, but it helped a lot after the first few months), and resolved some major stress in my life. Now, I can manage the skin well enough with moisturizing and ointments. I take Humira for Crohn's Disease.
I am very glad there is current information on this forum on many, many treatments for both Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis and feel confident that I will understand future therapies I may need someday. Thank you, Fred, for creating this useful, friendly place.
